Mariners are advised that urgent mechanical repairs will be performed at the Onslow Beach Swing Bridge across the North Carolina Cut, at AICW mile 240.7, at Camp Lejeune, NC. To facilitate repairs, the swing span will be closed to vessels requiring an opening beginning at 0100 on Wed, 8 Sep through 2359 on Tue, 14 Sep. The available vertical clearance in the closed position is approximately 12 feet, above mean high water. Mariners able to pass under the closed span may do so, should adjust their transits accordingly and exercise caution when transiting the area.
The recent sighting of an alligator in the surf at Onslow Beach is a rare occurrence. Alligators are usually found in freshwater. However, alligators have been discovered in the surf on Onslow Beach in the past. Should you spot an alligator at Onslow Beach or other areas, do not approach the alligator. It is unlawful to capture, harass or feed an alligator. Alert others in the area. Immediately notify a Lifeguard or the Onslow Beach staff in the reservations office.
